Anxious learners
If the thought of stalling at a busy junction is what is putting you off driving altogether, an automatic removes that worry entirely.
No clutch, no gears and no stalling. For most learners the automatic is the calmest route to a licence — and usually the quickest.
Automatic lessons are priced exactly the same as manual — £38 per hour, or £360 for a prepaid ten-hour block.
| Lesson or package | Hours | Price | Rate | Who it suits | Book |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Pay as you go | 1 hour | £38 | £38 per hour | Single hours for topping up, or for fitting a lesson into a tight week. | Book |
| Standard lesson | 2 hours | £76 | £38 per hour | Our recommended lesson length. Enough time to travel out, practise properly and review. | Book |
| 10-hour blockBest value | 10 hours | £360 | £36 per hour | Prepay ten hours and save £20 against the pay as you go rate. | Book |
All prices include a DVSA-approved instructor, a fully insured dual-controlled automatic car, one-to-one tuition and door-to-door pick up. No booking fees and no hidden extras. Prices are confirmed in writing before anything is booked.
Book with confidence. If you’re not happy with your instructor or the quality of your lessons, we’ll refund 100% of the value of your eligible unused prepaid hours, subject to our terms and conditions.
Take away the clutch and the gearstick and roughly a third of what a learner juggles disappears. What is left is the part that actually keeps you safe: observation, road position, speed and anticipation.
That is why automatic learners usually reach test standard in fewer hours. It is also why nervous drivers so often get on better in one — lessons feel less overwhelming when your feet are not part of the problem.
An automatic licence only covers automatic cars. If you later need to drive a manual — a work van, a cheaper second-hand car, a hire car abroad — you would have to take another practical test.
For most drivers that never becomes an issue, and the UK is steadily moving towards automatic anyway. But it is worth a moment's thought before you decide.
Compare with manualIf the thought of stalling at a busy junction is what is putting you off driving altogether, an automatic removes that worry entirely.
Fewer hours to test standard makes automatic the natural pairing with an intensive course if you have a deadline.
Plenty of our automatic students started in a manual and got stuck. Switching is not giving up — for many it is the thing that finally gets them a licence.

Intensive coursesAutomatic lessons are available across every area we cover, from Cheetham Hill and Crumpsall through to Salford and the city centre.
The test itself is identical and examined to the same standard. What changes is how long it takes to get there — with no clutch or gears, most learners reach test standard in fewer hours.
You can only drive automatic cars. If you later want to drive a manual, you would need to take another practical test in one. Your theory pass still counts.
It varies, but automatic learners typically need noticeably fewer hours than manual learners. We will give you an honest estimate after your first couple of lessons.
Often, yes. Removing gear changes takes away a large chunk of what you have to think about, which leaves more attention for the road and usually makes lessons feel calmer.
Automatic lessons are £38 per hour, the same as manual. A two-hour lesson is £76 and a 10-hour block is £360, saving £20. See our pay as you go prices for the full breakdown.
Yes. Automatic intensive courses are popular precisely because they combine the two fastest routes to a licence.
